From SPAIN- Alison Hughes reads Spanish press reviews on the Brexit deal agreed upon by Theresa May and the EU, and the US national climate assessment which affirmed that human activities are responsible for worsening weather patterns and recent record breaking wildfires.

From RUSSIA- Afshin Rattansi interviewed Clare Farrell, arts coordinator for Extinction Rebellion. This group has been staging mass protests around London to insist that action must be taken immediately on the degraded environment. The movement has shut down some bridges, painted washable graffiti, and sat in political offices to express their concerns.

From CUBA- An oil spill off the coast of Louisiana has been leaking since 2004, unreported until the BP Deepwater Horizon catastrophe in 2010, is continuing unabated and will soon be the biggest offshore contamination in US history. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization warned that global food production must increase by 40% and distribution must become more equitable to end hunger by 2050, when the world population will reach 10 billion. In Tijuana Mexico Border Patrol officers fired tear gas into a crowd of Central Americans seeking asylum. Meanwhile Israeli troops wounded dozens of Palestinian demonstrators with live ammunition and tear gas.

From JAPAN- Japan has set up guidelines for genetic editing following claims of success by a Chinese researcher. An international group of journalists has released a survey of health hazards caused by medical device implants. French President Macron unveiled a plan to reduce the number of nuclear power plants by greatly increasing wind and solar generation. A UN report says global greenhouse gas emissions reached a record level in 2017.

From GERMANY- Following a naval confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin says the event was staged by Ukrainian president Poroshenko, so he could declare martial law in the border regions and boost his chances for re-election.
